January 24th, 2025

BOLIVAR, Tenn.–A traveling career center is paving the way for students who are looking to the future.

Students at Bolivar High School participated in the interactive exhibit on wheels called “Be Pro Be Proud”.
An 18-wheeler, filled with exhibits and information came to the school, giving students a first-hand look at career opportunities in fields including driving a semi, welding, carpentry and plumbing.

The organizer of the ‘Be Pro, Be Proud’ event tells us what the kids enjoy most when the step inside this semi.

“We have a welding simulator, the welding simulator, probably one of the most favorite, it’s really fun watching kids get interested in something they’ve never tried before, but they’ll get on that welder and they’ll start welding and they’ll see that ‘hey, I can actually do this’, and so they’ll sign up for it in school,” said Jason Lewis, school manager for ‘Be Pro Be Proud of Tennessee’.

Organizers say there are semis like this one in eight other states that go to high schools to help get kids interested in a potential career.

Locally, Bolivar Energy Authority sponsored the ‘Be Pro, Be Proud ‘ event.
